Going down memory lane

My introduction to sports was when I started paying more attention to the box in the living room that showed pictures and live people called the TV, magical I know, this was around late 90s to early 2000s . Today I am going to share some of the sporting events and athletes that made headlines that I remember from that time.

1. 1995 Rugby World Cup

This event made history in so many ways, being the third rugby world cup. It was the first world cup to be hosted by one country which was South Africa, who also took the honors. For South Africa this was huge as it was the first major sporting event following the end of apartheid and it was the first rugby world cup in which South Africa was allowed to compete in. This is truly a moment to remember.

2. Michael Schumacher

Every boy child in my neighborhood wanted to be schumacher, they wanted to drive like him, every time they played with car toys or carts they will fight on who was going to be him. Schumacher is the first f1 driver I was introduced to and later on I will know some of the best who ever participated in the sport.

3. Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson is probably the most notorious boxer out there, he made a lot of noise in and out of the ring and most of it wasn’t good. Mike’s most memorable event took place in 1997 when he bit Evander Holyfield’s ear, if you didn’t knew him before then, he made it hard for people not to know him after.

4. Serena and Venus Williams

In the year 2000 they won a gold medal in women’s doubles in the Olympics marking the beginning of successful careers for the both of them.

The Olympics that also introduced 15 year old Michael Phelps to the world all in all it a great event.

Well there you have it, these are some of the events that introduced me to sports. Please share with me your thoughts on this topic, thank you
